She met Allan Higgs, a Pavenam man, at the 'Cat and Custard Pot' pub in Shelton, playing darts. They married at Hunslet Parish Church near Leeds on 16 July 1949.

Edna Rhodes is on the front row, in the centre, wearing a headscarf.
She was one of a mobile gang taken out each day in their Sharnbrook Hostel lorry to work on local farms.
