Further information Former florist from Stopsley Nurseries, aged 19.  Worked in the walled garden at Luton Hoo (1941-1945). Her carved name - 'Joy collard WLA 1941-1945' - can still be seen on a wooden shelf in the potting shed at Luton Hoo Walled Gardens.
She then became Deputy Forewoman at Cople Hostel.
Stayed on in horticulture after WLA disbandment.
