Cruel Water
By Sheila Cole
THE WAVES THEY ROLL ONTO THE SEA SHORE
HIGHER AND HIGHER THEY RISE
THE YOUNG GIRL STANDS, LOOKING OUT TO SEA
WIPING THE TEARS FROM HER EYES
HE WAS BUT A BOY, STARTING IN LIFE
WHEN TAKEN DURING THE STORM
A FISHERMAN OUT WITH HIS SMALL CRAFT
NEVER TO SEE HIS CHILD BORN
THE STORM CAME SO FAST, NO WARNING SHOUT
AS HE FELL INTO THE DEEP
HIS STRUGGLE FOR LIFE, EBBING AWAY
INTO A PERMANENT SLEEP
SHE COMES EVERYDAY, TALKS TO HER LOVE
WHO DIED IN THIS CRUEL WATER
SHE LOVED HIM SO MUCH, NOW HE IS GONE
SO SAD HE’LL NEVER MEET HIS DAUGHTER
