By Sue Hinkin
Content,
‘neath the scarlet sunset sky
In early evening’s summer hush.
Head upon the softest, sweetest,
New mown meadow grass.
Hidden, still and secret,
Drifting, in and out of sleep,
Daisies, clouds, honey bees,
No energy to think.
Distant chimes of evensong,
From the willow, blackbirds call.
Scented rose and honeysuckle
Adorning the old stone wall.
Red concedes to violet,
Twilight silhouette.
A wish on heaven’s first flickering star
On a magic midsummer’s night.
