Tribute to a Star
By Norma Eastwood
You were a Star
When we first met, so many years ago, your eyes were shining, your face was lit up with the joy of life. You drew people to you and your enthusiasm carried them along with you.
As we started our lives together, there were no dull moments. You were never bored, or boring. There was not enough time in the day to do everything your busy mind was planning.
You were a Star
So many people remember you for the good you did. You were a guiding light, a leader, a helper - always planning, always doing.
You earned respect, admiration, affection and love. You made so many friendships along the way, enduring and standing the test of time.
You were a Star
Too early in your life the clouds began to gather and hide the shining light in your eyes, and the enthusiasm in your face. Your eloquence and skills gradually diminished and were lost from view.
The bright star we knew seems gone for ever, and now you are in a world of your own. Dementia has cruelly made you a stranger in your own body.
You were a Star
But yet, sometimes there is a wonderful moment. The clouds part, and for a few brief seconds the sparkle is there in your eyes and your face lights up. Then the clouds are back again and the moment is gone.
But I see it, and I know without a doubt, though the stars are invisible in a cloudy night sky,
The Star is still there.
