The Pop Star
By Stuart Austin
The Pop Star stood upon the stage
Tuned the guitar he held, then played
They may not have understood or liked his song
But his fans all raved and carried on
As they bobbed and weaved to the pounding beat
He kept turning up the heat
Faster, harder came the hypnotic sound
Youngsters swooned and collapsed around
A sardonic smile lit up his face
As he enjoyed the power of the pace
On and on the music played
Until at last, by his strength, he was himself betrayed
He collapsed upon the stage
His fans a-goggle and aghast
Realising that their idol’s life had passed
Stood in silence and despair
For a force, that was no longer there.
