New Teen Collections
The teen book groups of Dunstable, Houghton Regis, Leighton Buzzard, Barton and Flitwick Libraries recently went to Waterstones to select a collection of books for the five libraries. Here are the thoughts from the Flitwick Book Munchers:
On Wednesday the 27th of October our teen book group (Book Munchers) went with a range of other book groups from Central Bedfordshire to Milton Keynes where we spent an hour and a half browsing the shelves of Waterstones to select and buy 150 of teen fiction books for Flitwick library.
We found it surprising how few books you could buy with 150 but ended up with a selection of 18 new books that we are extremely pleased with. We thought the range of books in Waterstones was wide and varied and it was exciting to browse different genres we werent familiar with. Meeting new people from other book groups was the highlight of the day and together we chose books based on what genres we thought teens would read such as horror, mystery and romance.
All in all it was a brilliant day and we are all eagerly awaiting the opportunity to do it again.
Dunstable Teen Book Talk chose a fun, random and eclectic selection of books and appropriately named it "Pick 'n' Mix"! The group decorated sweets and made a poster to advertise the collection and it has proved very popular with borrowers.
The Leighton Buzzard Teen Group designed a logo for their collection, The Box of Brilliant Books, and created a brilliant display of the books.
The Houghton Regis Teen Group called their collection "Midnight Hour" as most of them prefer supernatural books and they love the idea of dark and sinister!
