  • At Family History Online you can view many transcriptions of gravestone inscriptions which have been recorded by local family history societies. For details of the societies' printed indexes and transcriptions, see the online bookshop Genfair
  • At the Commonwealth War Graves Commission site you can search a database detailing the place of burial or commemoration of Commonwealth servicemen and women who died during the two world wars
  • The Bereavement Services Portal web site cemetery has the beginnings of a section of scanned records provided by  crematoria and natural burial ground operators
  • A web site called Find a Grave has mainly US records but does cover other countries too. It has several thousand records from England. It includes a section on 'Famous people'
