A-Z how to find information > Telephone, email, fax and post

Finding postcodes

  • Find a postcode by searching the Royal Mail's web site (see web site tips below) or call the Postcode Enquiry Line (but note the premium rate during office hours). The printed postcode directories have ceased publication
  • The Royal Mail web site also enables you to find an address if you have the postcode
  • The Royal Mail also has various products suitable for businesses and other large users. Details of those products are on the Royal Mail's web site and are not covered on this page

Royal Mail web site tips

  • The Royal Mail web site allows each user to make 12 searches during any 24 hour period

  • At the Royal Mail site, see the Personal Customers section and click 'Postcode finder'

  • Enter an address and click Find postcode

  • You then have to enter a series of random characters that you will see on the screen and click Continue before you see the results (This is to prevent automated systems using the search facility)

  • At the 'Find a postcode' page you can also click 'Find an address'. At the 'Find an address' page you can enter a full postcode to find an address

  • Search tips are at the Need help? section below the search form. You can search for postcodes by various different combinations of search criteria

  • The Need help? section also gives you a link to an enquiry form that you can send to the Royal Mail if you cannot find the postcode or address you are looking for
