  • The May 2012 update to the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography (ODNB) marked the forthcoming London Olympics by adding a new set of biographies of pioneering British Olympians and historic Londoners

  • You can see a selection of these lives, without logging in, by going to the freely available May 2012 Update page and clicking on each photo

  • You can read all other ODNB biographies (of people no longer living) and themed pages by logging in to the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography with your library card number and PIN
