Charles Dickens in The Times Digital Archive

- Dickens's many letters to the newspaper include one dated 14th November 1849 about witnessing a public execution, in which he argues against the death penalty. In another, dated 8th October 1863 he recounts his experience of an earthquake felt at his home in Higham near Rochester in Kent
- The Times also includes many features written by others about Dickens
- Search by entering the name Charles Dickens. For a more focused list, select 'title' at 'Search for words' and limit the dates to between 1812 and 1870 to cover his lifetime
- Dickens died on 9th June 1870. News of his death appears in the newspaper on 10th June 1870 with a further account on 11th June 1870. His funeral was reported on 15th June 1870 and there is an account of his will on 22nd July 1870
