Reunion and Social Networking Sites

A-Z How to Find Information > Family and Local History > Finding people

Reunion Sites

  • Old postcards and a magnifying glass on textReunion web sites enable people to add their names so that anyone looking for them can be put in contact with them. You can search these sites and also add your name if you wish. They are sometimes called 'message-posting sites'
  • Some of these sites help anyone looking for old friends and family while others are for specific groups of people. For example, there are sites specially for adopted people and their families and sites for members and ex-members of the armed services
  • Some of these sites are run by charities or other voluntary organisations and some are run by commercial bodies. For details of many of the most well-known of these sites see the Finding people section of WebLinks.

Social Networking Sites

  • If you think the person you are looking for may have joined a social networking site, you can find a list and descriptions of some of the main ones on a Web 2.0 tools page maintained by Heriot-Watt University
