National Art Library at the V&A
Based at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, the National Art Library is the UK's national fine and decorative arts reference library. You can visit in person or contact the library by e-mail, fax or phone. Click "National Art Library Catalogue" for resources and click "Finding Information" for helpful sources and links. "Artists Study Guide" has a useful list of major art texts and auction sales records held at the library.

Public Catalogue Foundation
The Public Catalogue Foundation, a charity, photographs and records oil paintings in publicly owned collections in the UK, for example: works in museums and paintings in council buildings, universities, hospitals, police and fire stations. Many of these works are not on display and the aim of The Foundation is to improve public access. A series of priced colour catalogues on a county-by-county basis is being published and the 'Oil Paintings in Public Ownership: Artist Index Volumes I-XX' can be freely downloaded from the PCF's website.

VADS: the online resource for the visual arts
This extensive collection of over 100 000 visual arts images from VADS (the Visual Arts Data Service) is a wonderful resource bringing together very diverse collections. These range from the Design Council Archives and Slide Collection, to the Central St Martins Museum and Study Collection. Fully searchable, you can find images of embroidery, hats, houses, furniture and posters for example.

Vincent Van Gogh: the Letters
With this fascinating site you can look at all 902 surviving letters written and received by Vincent van Gogh (1853-1890), many of them illustrated. Search by correspondent, period, place and for those with sketches. The results offer a facsimile of the letter, an English translation, notes and links to associated art works.
