The list of incumbents goes back to 1235 but there was almost certainly a church at Wymington before this date. The old church was completely rebuilt in the second half of the 14th century by Jihn Curteys a wealthy wool merchant who died in 1391. His tomb with effigies of himself and his wife Alfreda is under an arch on the south side of the chancel.
The church was completed in about 1377 is a remarkable fine building in the Decorated style and has always attracted the interest of antiquarians and students of architecture. There are wall paintings including a late 14th century Trinity in the south aisle and a 15th century Doom over the chancel arch.
Major repairs were carried out between the wars and in 1980 the wall paintings were conserved by Dr. Clive Rouse.
