Pertenhall
Saint Peter's Church

Places > Pertenhall > Churches

The list of incumbents at Pertenhall begins in 1154 and the church is apparently of Norman origin. The chancel was rebuilt in the 13th century and in the 14th century a chapel was added on the north side of the chancel.

The 15thcentury saw the rebuilding of the aisle and the erection of a west tower, spire and south porch.  The late medieval rood screen survives and there is a 13th century effigy of a knight which now occupies a recess in the east wall of the north aisle. Further restoration work was carried out in 1892-93 involving extensive fabric repairs and the removal of many of the 18th century fittings.
