The mill was built in 1762 and was substantially rebuilt in 1834 when the owner Mrs Sarah Bradshaw had the brick pillars increased in height and had a stone roundhouse built around its supporting timbers.
The windmill ceased working in 1918, its last miller being Isaac Shadbolt.. It stood derelict for many years until it finally collapsed on December 20th 1959. The two storey roundhouse remained until about 1969 when the upper storey was removed and the rest roofed over for use as a cattle shed.
