During the 1930s a series of wall paintings dating back to the thirteenth century were re-discovered in Chalgrave Church.  Full restoration work was undertaken in 1932-34 and further restoration work took place in the the 1980s by Bedfordshire County Council.

The Nave is decorated with ornamented borders, shields of arms and decorative painting.

The south aisle has a scheme which includes three Apostles slightly less than half size including Saint Paul bearing a sword.  Over the south door in the south aisle is a picture of Saint Martin of Tours painted c1400.

The north aisle includes four of the series of Apostles and traces of an angel with outspread wings and three other figures.  On the east wall is an annunciation with the Virgin Mary and Angel Gabriel.
