The memorial situated in The Embankment Gardens opposite Rothsay Gardens was unveiled in 1922. The memorial, a stone figure of a knight vanquishing a dragon was the work of the sculpture Charles S. Jagger who also designed the Royal Artillery Memorial in Hyde Park and the Great Western Railway War Memorial in Paddington Railway Station. He died in 1934 from pneumonia aged 49.

The memorial surround was designed by G.P.Allen.
