Dame Alice Almshouses

The almshouses built by The Harpur Trust between 1804 and 1816 as cottages for rent were turned into almshouses on completion and were refronted in a Tudor style by Henry Young in the 1890s.

The eastern section were modernised in the mid 1960s but the western section were demolished in 1969 and the site sold for an extension to Telephone house, which was never built.

In 2001 the remaining almshouses were sold by The Harpur Trust to be converted into single dwellings for private ownership.
