Further Information | Former factory worker, aged 17. [Phyllis was among the last few thousand recruits taken on before the organisation stopped recruitment, late in 1949. Note that her WLA number indicates that well over 200,000 young women had so far served in the Women's Land Army in England and Wales since 1939. Active recruitment ended after October 1949, although girls were accepted up to 31 March 1950, within the limits set by the Minister of Agriculture.] Phyllis was granted a willing release on medical grounds. |
