Further information | Former bank clerk at the National Provincial Bank, Shaftesbury Avenue, London. Aged 17 at enrolment. Transferred to Bedfordshire 28 August 1947. Left on completion of contract. Later in life, Dorothy was awarded the British Empire Medal for 20 years voluntary service in the Metropolitan Special Constabulary, attaining the rank of Divisional Officer - the first woman to do so in direct competition with men. |
