Natural History of Bedfordshire

Page nine continues with brief descriptions of the villages starting with Willington and the families associated with it (the Beauchamps, the Mowbrays and the Gostwicks).

Harrold (anciently called Harewood) is noted for the former Nunnery and now discontinued market.

Kings Cross (between Bedford Castle and Newnham) is recorded by the antiquarian, John Leland,  as being a place where the bones of many men were found as a result of wars between Henry III and his barons.

A hospital founded by Sir Edward Turner in Milton Ernest is remarked upon as are the remains of an ancient castle at Eaton.

Woodend is described as the seat of the Lukes and mention is made of Sir Samuel Luke as the model for Butler's Hudibras.

Southill is commended as the "beautiful seat of Patee, Lord Viscount Torrington."
