Further information Enrolled in Bedfordshire. Transferred to Northants then back to Bedfordshire 3 June 1942. Ruth joined the Land Army first, aged 22, before her sisters Hannah and Mary.  Before that she worked at a hairdressers in Brentwood, London where she experienced the dangers of German bombing and the strafing (firing machine guns at civilians from the air).
