Bedford Borough Libraries are delighted to be part of Get Online week this year - bringing digital skills and know-how to everyone.
In fact we are so excited we have not limited ourselves to just a week!! Events are happening in your local library between the 17th October and late November.

Online Basics

How to search and explore the internet, keep in touch with email, and use public services online - all while being safe and secure.

Using the Internet

You will learn all about browsing the internet. The session covers using a web browser to view websites, creating bookmarks and what copyright means online.


Using Online Forms

Learn what an online form is, how to fill in forms on a website and how to correct mistakes on them. You will also be shown different ways to complete online forms, such as text boxes and multiple choice answers.


Using Email

You will learn all about email accounts on the internet. How to set-up an email account, as well as how to open, read and send emails safely.


Using Search Engines

Learn how to search for things on the internet using search engines such as Google. Including how to search for websites, using bookmarks and saving images and other files.


Introduction to Internet Safety

Learn how to use the internet safely; email safety, making credit card payments on the internet for online shopping, child safety and how to keep your personal data safe online.


Online Safety

If you are using the internet you may need to think about staying safe online. These sessions will help you shop, bank and socialise safely online.

Keeping your personal information secure online

You will learn how to keep personal data safe on the internet. Discover ways to avoid identity theft, how to identify email scams (phishing), using online banking safely and how to look after your digital footprint.


Staying Safe Online

Learn how to keep your computer safe from possible threats like viruses. You’ll also learn how to keep safe on social websites like Facebook and how to shop safely online.


Finding a Job Online

Finding and applying for jobs can be tough, but learning how to search and apply for jobs online will make the process much easier and open up more opportunities for you.

Job Hunting Online

Learn how to find and apply for jobs online, as well as how to create and send a CV online and register for email updates for available jobs. You will also learn how to use Universal Jobmatch.


Universal Jobmatch - A how to guide

How to register with Universal Jobmatch, use it to search for jobs and apply for roles. Plus you can also see which jobs you have applied for and track your activity in the system.


Jobs and Interviews

Learn how you should prepare for a job interview and how the internet can help. It will give you advice for preparing for work and how to search for jobs online. You will also be shown how to use computers and the internet to find out about financial support for working families and find information on benefits.


National Careers Service - A how to guide

You will be introduced to the National Careers Service website and learn how to use it. You will find out how to use some of their great tools to help you improve your skills.


Improving Your Health Online

There are lots of ways you can use the internet to support your health. You can make appointments online, order repeat prescriptions and find advice on specific symptoms and conditions.

GP Services Online - A how to guide

Discover how to find your local GP surgery online, how to register with a GP surgery online and how to find out more information about the GP surgeries around you. Plus you will be shown how to apply for repeat prescriptions online and how to look up your health records.


NHS Choices - A how to guide

Learn how to make the most of the NHS Choices website. Find out how to use the website to find health advice online and find your local health services like GPs and hospitals.


Managing Your Money Online

Finances can be tricky, but these sessions will help you learn how to do budgeting, banking and shopping online in a safe and easy way.

Online and Mobile Banking

Find out how to do banking on the internet, using either a computer, tablet or mobile phone. Keep track of your money, make payments and stay safe with online banking.


Make Money Work

Learn about basic money management online and how to make the most of your money. You will learn how to take several simple steps right now to make a budget and manage your loans so that you can plan for the future.


Internet Skills

Become more confident with everything you might need to do on the internet, including online shopping and social media.

Online Shopping

Discover how you can use the internet to compare prices, your rights when buying online and secure payment methods you can use when shopping online.


Socialising Online

Learn about different social networks such as Twitter, Pinterest and Google+. You will learn how to connect with people and share things online, what a social network can offer and what a social network looks like.


Using Facebook

Find out how to set-up a Facebook account, keep your account safe, create your Facebook profile, find your friends and family. Plus how to post messages, pictures and updates.


Using a Digital Camera

Learn about digital cameras and how they work. You will also learn how to download photos from your digital camera to your computer, so that you can share them with your friends and family.


Watching and Listening Online

Learn how to watch TV online and access catch-up services like BBC iPlayer and 4 on Demand. Also learn how to access the radio online and use music services to listen to your songs whenever you like.


Smart Internet

You will learn about the different ways to connect to the internet as well as how to save money on your internet connection.


Public Services Online

Find out information about public services and save time and money by visiting local and national government websites.

Introduction to Public Services Online

Learn about the public services provided online by government and local councils, plus how to use the NHS Choices website.


More About Public Services Online

Learn more about what public services are available online, how to find those services and how to use them. You will also be introduced to GOV.UK website, where you can find a lot of information about different public services.


Universal Credit - A how to guide

Find out about Universal Credit and how to work out if you can claim. Discover how to make your first claim online and tell you what information you will need to do this.
