St. Mary's Church

There was a church at Potton in 1094 and the list of incumbents begins in about 1180. The earliest parts of the present church are the 13th century chancel and north transcript. The nave and the aisles are of the late 13th and early 14th century while the north porch and west tower are 15th century.
In 1873-74 the church was entirely re-pewed, the west gallery removed and the floor relaid at a total cost of 862.
In 1879 burials were discontinued in the old part of the churchyard and in May 1882 the whole churchyard was closed to burials except for a few vaults and walled on fenced graves.
