The story behind St. Cuthbert's Street, Bedfordshire On Sunday,
26th August 1979

Saint Cuthbert's Street

Bedfordshire on Sunday, reproduced with permission

It was in this picturesque thoroughfare, the eastern edge of Bedford until the middle of the last century that Bunyan lived, apart from his years in the County Gaol, from 1655 until his death in London in 1688. When his cottage, site of 17, was demolished in 1838, his Deed of Gift or will, which is now in the Bunyan Museum, was found concealed in a recess.
