Reading groups Reading groupsPoints to Consider While Reading and Discussing Books

Reading Group Home  | Books Home

Some things to think about while you read your book. Perhaps if you find it difficult to remember what you want to say about your book in a meeting, you could write these points down, and jot anything you come up with as you read your book.

  • Do you love it, loathe it, or really not care either way? Why?
  • What do you think are the main themes of the book?
  • Are these themes similar to anything else you, or your group have read?
  • Are the character real and convincing enough for you? Why?
  • Do you love or hate any of the characters? Why?
  • Is there a moment in the book that is especially memorable for you? Why?
  • Does the book have a message? What is the message?
  • Does it tell you anything about the author?
  • Do you want to read more by the same author?
  • Does it remind you of anything else? Another novel? A poem? A piece of music? A personal experience?
