LibraryPlus is now available at all Bedford Borough Libraries!

LibraryPlus is now available at all Bedford Borough Libraries, giving you more choice and flexibility in how you use your libraries.

LibraryPlus gives you extended access to Bedford Borough Libraries with a mixture of staffed hours and additional self-service hours. One you have signed up, you can use your library card and PIN to enter the library during self-service hours. View the opening hours for your local library.

How do I sign up for LibraryPlus?

Just visit your local Bedford Borough library and a member of staff will be happy to sign you up. You need to be 16 or over and a full member to register; please bring a form of ID with you showing your name and address.

You will be asked to sign an agreement with us and there will be a brief induction, as the LibraryPlus hours are self-service only. Once this is complete you are free to enter the library during both LibraryPlus self-service and staffed hours.

What does LibraryPlus offer?

Once you are registered, you are able to enter the library during LibraryPlus self-service hours by scanning your library card and entering your PIN at the entrance.

During LibraryPlus self-service hours you can:

  • Browse the shelves
  • Borrow, return and renew items
  • Collect requests
  • Make payments through the self-service terminals
  • Use the computers and Wi-Fi
  • Read or study
  • Meet your friends and family

Do I have to sign-up to LibraryPlus to use the library during staffed hours?

No, if you only plan to use the Libraries during staffed hours then you don't need to sign up for LibraryPlus. If you decide you'd like to become a LibraryPlus member, just speak to a member of staff.

How do I access the Library during self-service hours?

To enter the library during LibraryPlus self-service hours:

  • Scan your library card at the LibraryPlus entry panel by the entrance
  • Enter your 4-digit PIN

The doors will then open. (Wootton Library customers also require a code to open the gate in the fence.)

What security measures are in place during self-service hours?

All Bedford Borough Libraries have CCTV cameras throughout the buildings for your peace of mind and safety. They are monitored by the Bedford Borough CCTV Team.

There are also security guards in place at Bedford Central Library.

Am I able to use the computers during self-service hours?

Yes, if you sign up for LibraryPlus you are able to use the computers and Wi-Fi during self-service hours.

Am I still able to attend library activities?

If your group would like to meet in self-service hours, that's fine and you can all sign up to be LibraryPlus members. Please Contact Us if you run a group or organisation that is interested in using the library.
