Do you wish to pay a professional researcher, commercial organisation or a private investigator?
A-Z How to Find Information > Family and Local History > Finding people
- There is an organisation called the Association of Genealogists and Researchers in Archives whose members will undertake research for a fee. The researchers are mainly concerned with family history work but some also research finding living people
- You can also find private investigators in yellow pages directories. Visit the Telephone Directories section of WebLinks for directory web sites. Bedford Central, Dunstable and Leighton Buzzard libraries hold a full printed set of yellow pages for the UK. Other Bedfordshire libraries hold the local yellow pages for their area.
- Please note that direct or indirect links from WebLinks to fee-charging commercial organisations or investigators do not indicate that we recommend or endorse them
- Take great care if you commit to paying any money to a commercial people-finding organisation or private investigator. The costs might mount up greatly, especially if you are being charged according to time spent rather than a fixed quote. You could also note whether the sources they might be using might be ones you could search yourself at a lesser cost or free
