Places > Wymington

12th Century: The list of incumbents goes back to 1235 but there was almost certainly a church at Wymington long before the earliest documentary reference. The old church was completely rebuilt in the second half of the 14th century mostly with the wealth of John Curteys and was completed about 1377. John Curteys was a merchant and Mayor of the Wool Staple at Calais who died in 1391. There are wall paintings, including a 14th century Trinity in the South aisle and a 15th century Doom over the chancel arch.

1811: Wymington Enclosure Act.

1860: Wesleyan Chapel built.

1878: Village School opened.

1881c: Labourers were billeted in Wymington and the surrounding areas during the construction of the railway. A British Workman's Coffee shop was opened in the village and closed in 1884 on completion of the railway.

1925: The windmill demolished.
