Sandy Flood
Extract from the Bedford Mercury
4th January 1907

Yesterday (Thursday) morning Sandy was practically an isolated place on account of the floods. The heavy fall of snow, followed by a rapid thaw and plentiful rain, soon caused the overflow of the River Ivel. This covered the meadows all the way from Girtford to well-nigh Biggleswade, and at Beeston part of the North Road was also under water. The greatest depth, however, was on the New Road which connects York Road with Sandy Station. This was impassable on Wednesday, but yesterday morning was positively dangerous to even vehicular traffic, the water being in some places five feet deep.
