This church was enlarged and greatly altered in the mid 19th century and when the work was completed it was stated in a contemporary newspaper report that only the tower and part of the north wall are old.
Before the rebuilding, the church had a Norman chancel arch and early English work in the south side of the chancel. Major refurbishments took place between 1848-49 including the rebuilding of the chancel, the addition of a north aisle and vestry and new pews in the nave and aisles.
