CRANFIELD is an extensive village and parish, distant 9 miles south-west from Bedford, in the hundred of Redbornestoke, and diocese of Ely. The population in 1851 was 1;515; and the number of acres about 3,933. The Church, dedicated to St. Peter and St. Paul, is a very fine structure, in the Gothic style of architecture, with tower, and six bells. The living is a rectory, in the incumbency of the Rev. G.G.Harter, M.A. Here is a National School for boys and girls, and Almshouses for three widows.
