Bedford
Ford End Road

Places > Bedford > Streets > Ford End Road

In the 13th century this road was known as Forthe Strete. The road linked the centre of Bedford to the hamlet of Forth or Ford End in Biddenham. In the 19th century at least part of the road was called Coxs Pits Road after a stone pit which is marked on Bryants map of 1826.

At one time the road started from a point much nearer to the centre of Bedford but has gradually retreated as Midland Road has advanced.
