In 1835 a butcher’s shop opened in Harpur Street and 60 years later Mr. Edwin Canvin bought the shop when he arrived from Stony Stratford.
With the end of rationing after the Second World War the store changed from primarily being a butchers to a store selling a variety of food products. This shop at 16-18 Harpur Street was closed around 1974. During the 1970s the company had an abattoir in Windsor Road. In the early 1980s the company moved the abattoir to a new site at Meadow Lane, Cardington.
