An appropriate picture for this time of the year is one from the George Geary collection in The County Record Office showing the old Coach and Horses Inn in St. Peter's Square with its landlord George Christmas Drawater. The late Chris Carter ("Touchdown" of the Bedfordshire Times) who was born 100 years ago remembered Drawater as having a fine singing voice. The Coach and Horses stood on the north side of St. Pauls churchyard on the present site of the public lavatories, and was demolished in 1895, the licence being transferred to a replacement pub in Prebend Street.
