The Empire Cinema in Midland Road was opened by the Blake Brothers in 1915 with seating for 160 in the circle and 374 in the stalls. The cinema closed in the autumn of 1975 and was opened again in April 1976 after some renovation and became known as Granada 3. The cinema was closed and demolished in the autumn of 1977.
