Books!

Two girls doing their homeworkWe have a vast collection of information books in our libraries to borrow. You can search for these using Arena, the online catalogue. You can search by title, author, keyword and subject, plus you have the option to request particular titles which can be delivered to your local library for free!

Alternatively you can use our Library App available from the Apple and Android app store, just search for 'Bedfordshire Libraries' to install. Then you can search, request, and renew items on your mobile and tablet device.

The Virtual Library:

  • QuickLinks suggests recommended web sites which give you direct access to hundreds of external websites specially chosen for their reliability and the suitability of their content
  • Britannica Library which has age appropriate levels for Junior (key stage 1 & 2) and Student Level (Key Stage 3 & 4) on many curriculum topics
    Plus Spotlight from Britannica Library gives quick access to a number of popular topics ranging from Pancake Day to the Great Fire of London
  • Oxford Dictionaries provides word definitions, spelling and usage
  • The Times Digital Archive contains historical newspaper reports from 1785 to 2009 which give primary source material for research purposes
  • Press Reader gives access to up to date international and local newspapers in many different languages
  • If you do not have access to IT and printing at home don't worry, your local library has computers. Access to Microsoft software and the internet is free for children. Printing available for a small charge
  • We keep an archive of pictures and information on each of the towns and villages across Bedford Borough and Central Bedfordshire which are great to build a picture of your local neighbourhood, plus there are books and maps in your local library
