Poetry Connect - Looking Forward
Lucky Ones
By Helen Wolfe
Back to Poetry Connect - Looking Forward
With many people anxious
And unsure what to do
I thought I’d write a poem
With love from me to you
When you wake up in the morning
But can’t be bothered to get dressed
Remember everything you have
You really are quite blessed
You have a roof above your head
And shoes upon your feet
Most other things are luxury
And others miss that treat
You have water, love and laughter
You can do this, you are great
Staying home isn’t all that bad
It’s not that long to wait
Use this time to ponder
To think, to learn, to write
All those things you’ve thought to do
And hoped that you just might
Look out of your window
And count your lucky stars,
Your home, your life, your garden
Your food and drink and cars
You could learn to knit or sew
Or read your favourite book
Crochet, paint or colour in
Perhaps just learn to cook!
Remember we’re the lucky one’s
Staying safe whilst staying in
So we can fight this virus
We have no option but to win
The nurses and the carers
All those working in your shop
The people on the front line
They must be fit to drop
So please don’t say you’re bored or mad
There’s so much we can do
Stay in, stay safe, stay lucky
With love from me to you ❤️
