Looking Forward

Back to Poetry Connect - Looking Forward
I hear a noise, it's a distant thump and chatter,
Slowly I open my eyes to see you bouncing,
So excited for the new day,
I shout for you to keep it down,
You keep going, I shout
You cry, I feel terrible and get up.
You're excited for the day but to me it feels like groundhog Day.
I feel demotivated, tired of staying home.
The same place every day. I feel isolated yet so grateful for the time I have to bond with you.
I finally am ready for the day 2 hours later,
We fill the day with activity after activity, exercise, jokes, cooking, pranks and it's amazing.
We are living in our bubble.
It's bittersweet. I love that I watch you grow with no distractions of the rat race as we call it.
On the other hand I feel unappreciated,
Not having one minute to myself from dusk to dawn,
I wouldn't change it, because I love you and I can't picture a world without you.
In all this chaos and so many beautiful memories. I have hope, I look forward to life going back to "the rat race" but not like it was before.
This time I look forward to...
Taking it slow, remembering how I gave my best effort to tell you a silly joke because I had time,
I look forward to always making you laugh.
Just laying down and letting you show me what the next adventure is,
I look forward to making that effort to find time for that.
Teaching you how to hold a pencil, write, how you were so proud of your effort.
I look forward to having a meaningful life, things will be different,
Not like they were before,
Better....
Looking forward to it!
