More information | Recruited in Huddersfield. Transferred to a Lincolnshire hostel in Sept 1941, then to Northamptonshire in Feb 1942. Served in Bedfordshire
from April to November 1950. Dairy and general farming. Given a paid holiday at the WLA Torquay Rest Home for those land girls who had served long-term and were "run-down" or recovering from illness, Dec 1948. Took part in the final "stand-down" parade, one of 500 land girls representing Bedfordshire at Buckingham Palace, 21 October 1950. "We were proud to be part of the parade up the Mall" in the morning and attended a service at St Paul's Cathedral in the afternoon. Married the farmer Edward Stratford in 1952. |
