The Victorian Web was originally begun back in 1987 as a means of helping scholars and students see connections between different fields. The DOAJ was launched in 2003 with 300 open access journals. Today, this independent database contains over 15 000 peer-reviewed open access journals with 5 million+ articles, covering all areas of science, technology, medicine, social sciences, arts and humanities.

Multidisciplinary - OpenDOAR
OpenDOAR is the quality-assured, global Directory of Open Access Repositories. It hosts repositories that provide free, open access to academic outputs and resources and is searchable by subject and by country. The service launched in 2005 as the product of a collaborative project between the University of Nottingham and Lund University, funded by OSI, JISC, SPARC Europe and CURL. It includes links to research archives of most UK universities.
