All Saints Church

Places > Renhold > Churches

All Saints Church has a Norman font and the list of vicars goes back to 1229. The present building dates chiefly from the 14th century and the west tower was built in the 15th century when the south wall of the nave was also built.

Monuments to the Becher and Polhill families are in the chancel and there is a Howbury mausoleum on the north side of the church. The vestry on the north side of the chancel was built as a schoolroom about 1725 under a bequest from William Becher. It has been used as a vestry since a new village school was built in 1865.

Major restoration work was carried out between 1862-63 by Bedford architect James Horsford at a cost of 800.
