MEPPERSHALL is a village and parish, distant 12 miles southeast from Bedford; in the hundred of Clifton, and diocese of Ely. The population in 1851 was 500, and in 1861 it was 541; the number of acres is about 1,950. The Church, dedicated to St. Mary, is a small stone edifice, with tower in the centre. The living is a rectory, in the gift of St. John's College, Cambridge; the Rev. J. H. Howlett, B. D., is the rector. Here is a National School for boys and girls.
