The Bedford Co-op was opened in Midland Road around 1930. In 1970 the Co-op remodelled its store introducing the new distinctive curved plastic panel frontage. In 1979 the Co-op leased part of the Howard Centre and extended the store. The Bedford Co-op closed in December 1990 as the shop had been loosing money for several years.
