The Blake & Edgars photographic business began at 32,later renumbered 74 Midland Road in 1871. William Blake arrived in Bedford in 1866 as manager of George Downes business in Harpur Street.
One of his first successes was the publication of a series of postcards, which depicted Bedford in 1868-70, which were sold at twopence each by all Bedford stationers. In 1897 the firm moved to 38-40 High Street. In 1912 William Blake dies and the firm was taking over by his son Norman. The shop closed about 1932.
