The firm Deane & Son carriage builders was founded in 1849 and was situated on St.Mary’s Square, Bedford.. In 1911 the firm was purchased by Nicholls & Son who took over the premises and remained there until 1967 when they moved to Kingsway. The main building was restored by Bedfordshire County Council in 1972 for use by Mander now Bedford College.
