Mander College now known as Bedford College exemplifies the teaching of the Swiss architect Le Corbusier a pioneer of modern high design regarding the need to site such towers blocks in a park-like setting or as with Mander College with a riverside frontage.
The North Bedfordshire College of Further Education was founded in 1958 and renamed Mander College to commemorate the work of Sir Frederick Mander Chairman of the Education Committee of Bedfordshire County Council. Mander College was officially opened on the 19th June 1959 by the Rt. Hon. R.A.Butler Secretary of State for Home Affairs.
