Help Searching by Author
If you know the name of the author or performer then this is the best search for you. For example, J K Rowling, Pink Floyd, Girls Aloud, etc.
- Type the name into the box headed Author, where the
black line is flashing.
Type the surname followed by the last name, e.g. Rowling J K or Dickens Charles - Select an option from the dropdown heading next to 'At' to search all the libraries or one specific branch. Click on the option you want to highlight it in blue.
- If you do not want to search the whole library catalogue you can limit your search to specific types, such as Book, DVD, Video. Click on the dropdown arrow next to the heading Type of Stock. Click on the option you want to highlight it in blue.
- Click the 'Search' button
Author Browse Results
This page shows you all the results to your search, and the hit count. The Hit Count represents the number of titles and different editions or formats found.
10 entries are shown per page, if there are more than 10 entries with the
words you have typed in there is a row of numbers, click on the next number
to view the next page of results.
You can change the number of results shown on a page by clicking on the
dropdown arrow next to the heading 'Results per page' and then clicking
'Go'.
You can change your limits at any time by clicking on one of the links showing towards the top right hand corner of the screen.
- Click on the author that matches your search, when you move the mouse arrow over the author the arrow will turn to a hand, click now.
- If the results do not match what you were looking for try another search, we would recommend the Keyword search or click on the link 'Can't find what you are looking for? Request it!'
Author Title Results
This page will list all the entries by the author you selected; there may be a few if there are hardback, paperback, large print editions.
There is a short entry for each edition/version. This lists the Author, Title, Type of item, number of copies in stock and plus the number of reservations
- Click on the title that best matches your requirements, or click on 'More Details'.
- This will take you to a full entry for that edition/version
More Details Results
This page shows you the full catalogue entry. Further down the page is the 'Copy Availability' which lists which libraries hold copies and whether they are on the shelves or not. Further down the page is more information about the title, which can be of use. At the bottom of the page are links to run related searches - for the author/title or class number.
From here you can choose to reserve the title or visit the library to collect the copy if it shows copies are on the shelves. If you decide to visit the library to pick up a copy that appears to be on the shelves, please telephone the library first and ask them to hold that copy for you, or you may have a wasted journey.
- Click Add to Basket to start the reservation process
- Click Back to Title List at the top of the page if you wish to return to the entries for the author you chose
- Click Previous to see the next title in the list of entries for the author you chose
- Click Next to see the next title in the list of entries for the author you chose
