Thurleigh Windmill

Places > Thurleigh > Windmills

The windmill was built in the late 1880s, originally the mill was powered by double shuttered sails but later steam power was added. One sail was blown off in 1917, the other three sails together with all the iron millwork  were removed for scrap in 1940 to help with the war effort, and the roof collapsed in 1969.

In 1983 permission was granted for the windmill to be converted into a house, permission was renewed and the work was carried out in 2000.
